Karen Zaghiyan, M.D., F.A.C.S. is double board certified in colorectal and general surgery. She is an expert in minimally invasive colorectal surgery specializing in the surgical and non-surgical treatments for conditions of the colon, rectum, and anus. She has a special interest in improving patient care through minimally invasive surgery including robotic, single-incision, and natural orifice surgery, as well as women’s colorectal health and benign anorectal disease.

Dr. Zaghiyan graduated magna cum laude from University of California, Los Angeles, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. She received her medical degree from University of California, San Diego. She then commenced her general surgery residency at the prestigious Cedars Sinai Medical Center. During her training, she dedicated a year as a clinical research scholar, investigating surgical outcomes in inflammatory bowel disease. After general surgery, she completed her fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at Cedars Sinai Medical Center with advanced training in laparoscopic, single incision and robotic techniques.  During her training, Dr. Zaghiyan traveled to Singapore, acquiring further training from international leaders in her field. Dr. Zaghiyan is now in practice in Los Angeles and is Associate Professor of Surgery at Cedars Sinai Medical Center. She has lectured both nationally and internationally at various surgical conferences and authored numerous practice-changing publications in the most prestigious peer-reviewed  medical journals.
